Early Life and Education

Navdeep Singh Jane was born and raised near New Delhi. He later moved to Roorkee, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 1979. In 1982, Jane moved to Jamshedpur to pursue an MBA from the School of Business and Industrial Management.

Career in Technology

After graduating in 1983, Jane left India for the United States through a corporate exchange program with Burroughs Corporation. He explored the burgeoning high-tech market, working for companies such as Convergent Technologies and Tandon Computer Corporation.

In 1989, Jane joined Microsoft in Redmond, Washington, as a project manager. He initially worked on operating systems and later contributed to several of Microsoft's major products, including MS-DOS, Windows NT, and Windows 95. Jane holds three patents with Microsoft. He eventually moved to management within Microsoft Network.

Founding InfoSpace

In 1996, Jane left Microsoft to start a new venture, InfoSpace. He founded the company in March 1996 and served as its CEO until 2000. InfoSpace provided metasearch and personalized search services for businesses and consumers. During his tenure as CEO, Jane's personal wealth rose from $1 billion in 1999 to $2.2 billion in 2000, earning him the 121st spot on Forbes' 400 Richest Americans list.

In 2002, Jane was ousted as InfoSpace's CEO by the company's board. He resigned from the company in April 2003.

Post-InfoSpace Ventures

In 2003, Jane co-founded Intelius, a Bellevue, Washington-based web-security company. The company faced significant criticism and lawsuits related to its marketing practices. In 2012, Intelius and its holdings were restructured, with the corporate umbrella rebranded as "Abundance."

In August 2010, Jane co-founded Moon Express, a private company dedicated to developing and launching robotic spacecraft to the Moon. Jane is also the founder of the World Innovation Institute.
