Early Life and Education

Nestor Ivanovich Shufrych was born on December 29, 1966, in Uzhgorod, Ukraine. He graduated from Uzhgorod State University in 1992 with a degree in history.

Military and Business Career

From 1985 to 1987, Shufrych served in the Soviet Army. He then worked as a translator for a commercial enterprise in Uzhgorod and held various executive positions in Soviet-Austrian joint ventures.

Political Career

Early Years

Shufrych began his political career in 1998 when he was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, from the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) (SDPU(o)). He served as a deputy from the Zakarpattia Oblast and held several committee positions.

Minister for Emergencies

In 2006, Shufrych was appointed Minister for Emergencies and Population Protection from the Consequences of the Chernobyl Catastrophe by the Verkhovna Rada. He held this position in the government led by Viktor Yanukovych.

Later Political Activities

In 2007, Shufrych joined the Party of Regions and became the first deputy chairman of the party. He has continued to serve as a member of parliament for the Zakarpattia and Cherkasy Oblasts.

Academic Credentials

Shufrych is a candidate of sciences. In 2004, he defended his dissertation on "The Development and Transformation of Agrarian Production in Hungary" at the Institute of Agrarian Economics of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences.
