Childhood and Education
Nikolai Petrovich Bukhantsev was born on January 1, 1963, in the village of Karatalsk, Taldy-Kurgan Oblast, Kazakh SSR. After completing high school, he enrolled at the Kemerovo State Institute of Culture, graduating in 1984 with a degree in cultural and educational work.
Early Career
In the mid-1980s, Bukhantsev held various leadership positions in cultural institutions. In 1990, he began studying at Tomsk State University named after Kuibyshev. Concurrently, he pursued a career in business, holding positions in trading and holding companies.
Government and Energy Industry Roles
In 2001, Bukhantsev was appointed advisor to the Minister of Energy and a member of the board of directors of Rosneft. In 2002, he became the general director of the Central Dispatch Center for the Fuel and Energy Complex (CDU TEC) of the Ministry of Energy in Moscow. The following year, he was appointed head of the department for cooperation with CIS countries at the Ministry of Energy.
Return to Culture and Religious Involvement
Beginning in the 2000s, Bukhantsev turned his attention back to culture. In 2004, he became deputy chairman of the International Pushkin Fund "Classics" and chairman of the board of the charitable organization supporting the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy.
Current Positions and Honors
Bukhantsev currently serves as deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Solovetsky Stavropegic Monastery (Russian Orthodox Church).
Over the years, Bukhantsev has received numerous state awards and titles. In 2007, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation." In 2001, he received an expression of gratitude from the President of the Russian Federation. In 2002, he was awarded the title of "Honorary Oilman," and in 2006, he was presented with the Medal "200 Years of the Ministry of Defense of Russia."
