Biography of Nicholas Putvinski
Nicholas Putvinski is an American designer of Russian descent. He gained recognition through his participation in the sixth season of the reality show Project Runway, where contestants compete to create the best outfit within limited time constraints. Putvinski finished in 7th place overall in the competition. He won one of the weekly challenges on the show, successfully completing the task given in the sixth episode, but was eliminated in the tenth episode.

Early Life and Education
Nicholas was born in Moscow, Russia. He discovered his potential as a designer at the age of fifteen when he sewed a faux leather dress for his twelve-year-old sister. After immigrating to the United States, Nicholas spent most of his childhood in San Diego, California. He had only three weeks to familiarize himself with the English language before attending an American school.

After high school, Nicholas studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, New York City. He continued his studies at Izquierdo Studio in New York. Several of Nicholas's works were featured in magazines such as W Magazine and Vogue. He also designed dresses for the renowned luxury women's clothing brand Marchesa, founded in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. Additionally, he worked as the lead assistant to a costume designer creating the famous angel wings for Victoria's Secret fashion shows.

Project Runway and Other Achievements
As a result of his experience at Victoria's Secret, Nicholas became the first designer on Project Runway to work on garments worn by the show's host, German supermodel Heidi Klum, who had spent thirteen years as a Victoria's Secret Angel. In February 2009, Nicholas conceived and made a dress for the Oscars Design Challenge by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
Nicholas's favorite designer is Olivier Theyskens, a Belgian fashion designer and artistic director of the fashion house Nina Ricci. In the spring of 2011, contestants from different seasons of Project Runway were asked to sketch a wedding dress that they would propose for Kate Middleton to wear on her marriage to Prince William. Nicholas's design stood out, as he dressed the future Duchess of Cambridge in a fur mini dress with two long tails on each side.
