Biography of Nicole Rajicova

Nicole Rajicova is a Slovakian-American figure skater who competes in ladies' singles. She is a four-time Slovakian champion (2013, 2015-2017). As of January 28, 2017, she is ranked 17th in the International Skating Union (ISU) rankings.

Early Life

Nicole Rajicova was born on August 13, 1995, in the United States to Slovakian immigrant parents. Both of her parents were figure skating coaches, so she had little choice but to pursue the sport. Initially, she decided to compete for her home country, but realized that breaking into the elite level would be very difficult there. She then decided to represent Slovakia, where she had the opportunity to compete in the Winter Olympics and other top tournaments.

Early Career

In December 2011, Rajicova made her debut as a Slovakian singles skater at the Golden Skate Trophy in Croatia. She won the silver medal at the 2012 Slovakian Championships. In the next pre-Olympic season, she competed in junior Grand Prix events and various senior tournaments. In December, she became the Slovakian champion for the first time and participated in the Junior World Championships in Milan in early 2013.

In the Olympic season in the fall of 2013, Rajicova continued to compete in junior Grand Prix events and various senior tournaments. She did not place among the medalists at the national championships, but was sent to the European Championships in Budapest by the federation for various reasons. She also competed in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, representing Slovakia. She advanced to the final segment for women. She also competed at the World Championships in Japan that same season, but only skated the short program.

Recent Career

In the post-Olympic season in the fall of 2014, Rajicova continued to compete in junior Grand Prix events. She finished near the podium in Croatia and Slovenia. She won the national championship in December and competed at the European Championships in Stockholm in January 2015, where she placed among the top twelve continental skaters. She also competed at the Junior World Championships in Tallinn in early March, finishing near the top ten. She ended the season at the World Championships in Shanghai, where she advanced to the final segment.

In the next season, Rajicova made her debut in the main competitions of the Grand Prix series. She competed at Skate America in Milwaukee, finishing in the middle of the standings and improving her previous achievements. She also competed in Beijing. In December, she won her third national championship. In January 2016, she competed at the European Championships in Bratislava, where she struggled in the free skate and finished twelfth. At the World Championships in Boston, she finished close to twelfth but improved her previous achievements in the short program and total score.

In the new Olympic season in October 2016, Rajicova started at the Nepela Memorial in the capital of Slovakia, where she finished in the top five. She then competed in the Grand Prix events, starting in Moscow at the Rostelecom Cup, where she improved her achievements in the short program and finished seventh. Her performance at the final event in Sapporo was not successful, as she finished last. However, she won her national championship for the umpteenth time in December. In late January, she competed at the European Championships in Ostrava, where she finished in the top six and improved all her previous achievements. Finally, at the World Championships in Helsinki in late March, she finished in the top twenty but managed to qualify and earn a spot for her country at the Olympics in South Korea.

In the new Olympic season, Rajicova started at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Bratislava, where she finished in the top ten. A month and a half later, she competed in a Japanese stage of the Grand Prix series, finishing in the top ten.
