Early Life and Career
Nikolai Fyodorovich Andreyev was born on May 9, 1917, in the village of Remnyovo, Russia. After completing his secondary education, he worked on a collective farm. In 1939, he was conscripted into the Red Army and enrolled in a junior lieutenant's course.
Military Service
Andreyev began his wartime service in 1941 and soon joined the 3rd Separate Engineer Battalion of the 72nd Rifle Division. He participated in battles on the South-Western, Leningrad, and Volkhov Fronts, sustaining two wounds during his service.
In 1942, Andreyev graduated from the Bolshevo Military Engineering School and earned a commission as an officer. In the spring of 1944, he took command of a sapper platoon.
Heroic Action
On June 21, 1944, as part of the 21st Army's offensive to break enemy defenses near Vyborg, Andreyev's platoon was tasked with clearing a path for tanks and infantry. Under heavy enemy fire, they successfully removed mines, barbed wire, and obstacles.
Despite being wounded during the operation, Andreyev continued to lead his men until the passage was completed. His actions enabled the liberating forces to advance.
Recognition
For his exceptional courage and bravery, Andreyev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 21, 1944. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal.
Post-War Life
After a prolonged hospitalization, Andreyev retired from military service in 1945 as a senior lieutenant. He studied at the Kalinin Regional Party School and the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Andreyev worked in various party and economic positions. In the 1950s, he served as chairman of the struggling "Pobeda" collective farm for four years. Subsequently, he worked as a foreman in the Udomlya Inter-Kolkhoz Mobile Mechanized Column.
Nikolai Fyodorovich Andreyev passed away on January 27, 1987, in the town of Udomlya, Tver Oblast.
