Early Life and Education

Serhiy Mykolayovych Nykyforov was born on December 12, 1968, in Staryy Lysets, Ukraine. In 1992, he graduated from the Saratov Higher Military Command Red Banner School named after Dzerzhinsky of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 2003, he completed his studies at the National Academy of Border Troops of Ukraine.

Military Career

Officer Positions

Nykyforov held various officer positions within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including commander of a platoon and head of the administration of the Crimean Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

National Guard Command

In 2010, Nykyforov became the head of the administration of the Crimean Territorial Command of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He was appointed Deputy Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine on April 18, 2014, by the President of Ukraine.

Acting Commander and Commander

Nykyforov served as Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine from February 6, 2015, to December 31, 2015. He was appointed Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine on June 14, 2019.

Resignation

On January 27, 2022, Nykyforov resigned from his position as Commander following a shooting incident involving a conscript who killed five fellow soldiers.

Honors and Awards

Nykyforov has been honored with the Order of Merit, 2nd and 3rd degrees, and the Medal "For Military Service to Ukraine."
