Early Life and Education

Alexander Alexandrovich Fadeev was born into a peasant family in Russia. In 1938, he graduated from the Institute of Red Professors with a degree in party work.

Early Career

Fadeev's early career was marked by various positions in the Komsomol and the Communist Party. In 1923, he worked as a sailor on a dredger and a steamship. From 1924 to 1929, he held various leadership roles in the Komsomol and labor unions.

Service in the CPSU

In 1930, Fadeev became Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Committee of the Union of Education Workers. He later served as Head of the Cultural Department and Deputy Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Committee of the Union of Machine Building Workers.

Career in Arts and Culture

In 1938, Fadeev became an instructor in the Department of Leading Party Organs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). Later that year, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Arts Affairs under the Council of People's Commissars (later Council of Ministers) of the USSR.

From 1938 to 1948, Fadeev served as Head of the Administration (later Committee) for Arts Affairs under the Council of Ministers of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). During this period, he was responsible for overseeing the development of arts and culture in Russia.

In 1948, Fadeev became First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Arts Affairs under the Council of Ministers of the USSR. From 1951 to 1953, he served as Chairman of the Committee.

Later Career and Retirement

After leaving his position as Chairman, Fadeev served as Deputy Minister of Culture of the USSR (1953-1954) and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR (1954-1958). From 1959 to 1962, he was Director of the State Museum of L. N. Tolstoy. Fadeev retired in April 1962.

Recognition and Legacy

Fadeev was a member of the Communist Party from 1925. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1949. He is buried in the Donskoye Cemetery in Moscow.
