Early Life and Education
Nikolai Vasilyevich Denin was born on May 15, 1958, in the village of Domashkovo, Bryansk Region, Russia, into a farming family. In 1977, he graduated from the Novozybkovsky Agricultural Technical School and embarked on his career.
Career in Agriculture
Denin began his career as a mechanic at the "Domashkovsky" state farm. He later held positions as a harvester operator, auto mechanic, and head of the state farm workshops. In 1981, he was appointed director of the "Domashkovsky" state farm.
In 1992, Denin was appointed head of the "Snezhka" poultry factory in the village of Putevka. Under his leadership, "Snezhka" developed into a multi-faceted enterprise, earning recognition among the top 1,000 businesses in Russia.
Political Career
In 1996, Denin was elected as a deputy to the Bryansk Regional Duma. In 2000, he ran for the post of Governor of the Bryansk Region but placed second to incumbent Governor Yuri Lodkin.
Denin joined the United Russia party in 2002 and became the secretary of the party's political council in the Bryansk region. In 2003, he was elected as a deputy to the State Duma from the Bryansk single-mandate constituency.
Governorship of the Bryansk Region
In 2004, Denin was elected as Governor of the Bryansk Region. He was re-appointed to a second term in 2007 after a nomination by President Vladimir Putin.
Controversies and Accolades
During Denin's governorship, allegations of media censorship emerged. In 2005, he was involved in a fatal road accident, but was acquitted of any wrongdoing.
Denin holds the titles of Candidate of Economic Sciences and Candidate of Agricultural Sciences. He is also an honorary doctor of the State University of Management and a Honored Worker of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
Personal Life
Denin is married to Nadezhda Ivanovna, and they have two children: Alexander, a student, and Tatiana, a police investigator. He enjoys cross-country skiing and running.
