Early Life and Education
Mykola Romaniuk was born in Ukraine and graduated from the Lviv Forestry Institute in 1982 as an engineer-technologist. In 1995, he completed his degree in economics at the Lutsk Industrial Institute.
Career in the Soviet Union
Romaniuk began his career in 1975 at the Lutsk Furniture Factory. After graduating in 1982, he worked as a foreman there. From 1983 until the early 1990s, he held various positions in the Komsomol (Young Communist League) and Communist Party.
Independent Ukraine
After Ukraine's independence, Romaniuk served as head of the Committee for Youth and Sports in the Volyn Oblast Council from 1991 to 1993. From 1993 to 2007, he led the Volyn regional branch of PrivatBank.
Political Career
In December 2007, Romaniuk was appointed head of the Volyn Oblast State Administration by President Viktor Yushchenko. He was elected mayor of Lutsk on October 31, 2010, and re-elected in 2015. He was a member of the Volyn Oblast Council for three terms.
Family
Romaniuk was married and had two sons.Awards and Honors
Romaniuk was awarded the title of Honored Economist of Ukraine. He received the Order of Merit II and III degrees, the Honorary Diploma of the National Bank of Ukraine, and diplomas from the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada. He was posthumously named an honorary citizen of Lutsk in 2017.
