Early Life and Education

Nikolina Brnjac was born on July 11, 1978, in Karlovac, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. In 1996, she enrolled in the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering at the University of Zagreb, graduating in 2002. She went on to earn a master's degree in 2005 and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in 2009.

Academic Career

From 2002 to 2010, Brnjac served as an assistant at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering at the University of Zagreb. From 2010 to 2017, she was head of the Department of Intermodal Transport. In 2016, she received the title of associate professor.

Brnjac has published two textbooks for university students: "Engineering and Technological Calculations in Railway Transport" (2009) and "Intermodal Transport Systems" (2012). She has also authored over 50 scientific papers and professional articles in the field of intermodal transport and logistics in national and international journals.

Organizational Affiliations

Brnjac has been an active member of various organizations related to transport and logistics. She was a member of the organizing committee of the international scientific conferences "Ports and Waterways" (POWA) from 2007 to 2011 and ZIRP in 2014, 2015, and 2017. She was also a member of the scientific committee of the conference Transport and Insurance Law (INTRANSLAW) in 2015 and 2017.

In 2015, Brnjac became vice-president of the Association for Intermodal Transport and Logistics of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.

Political Career

In 2017, Brnjac was appointed State Secretary at the Ministry of Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure of Croatia. In 2019, she became State Secretary for Cooperation with the European Parliament at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia.

Brnjac represented Croatia during its presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1 to June 30, 2020. She received the portfolio of Minister of Tourism and Sports of Croatia in the second cabinet of Andrej Plenković, formed after the Croatian parliamentary elections of July 5, 2020. The government's composition was approved by the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) on July 23.

Personal Life

Nikolina Brnjac is married and a mother of two children. She is fluent in English and German.
