Education and Early Career
Georgian economist and statesman, was educated at Tbilisi State University's Faculty of International Economic Relations. He furthered his studies in the UK (Bournemouth College, 1998), Ireland (University of Limerick, 1999, BA in Finance and Economics), and the US (Temple University, 1999-2000, MA in International Business Management).
Concurrently, he held positions in Dublin (Invesco Fund Management Corporation, 1999, Fund Administrator/Manager) and Philadelphia (Center for Small Business Development, 2000, Financial Consultant, Energy Efficiency Projects).
Public Service
His public service began in 2001 as Financial Consultant for Telecom Georgia, followed by Management Consultant for Georgia's Energy Market in the Spanish consortium Iberdrola (2002). He was Management Contractor for Irish company SBE (2003-2004), and served as Georgia's Minister of Energy (2004-2007) and Minister of Finance (2007-2009).
Prime Minister of Georgia
On January 30, 2009, President Mikhail Saakashvili nominated him as Prime Minister of Georgia, a position confirmed by Parliament on February 6. He became Georgia's fifth Prime Minister.
