Early Life and Education
Norbert Lammert was born in Bochum, Germany in 1948. He pursued sociology at the universities of Bochum and Oxford from 1969 to 1972. In 1975, he earned a doctorate in social sciences. In recognition of his academic achievements, Bochum University appointed him as an honorary professor in 2008.
Political Career
Lammert's political journey began in 1966 when he joined the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). From 1975 to 1980, he served as a member of the Bochum City Council. In 1980, he was elected to the Bundestag, Germany's parliament.

In 2002, Lammert was appointed as Vice-President of the Bundestag. In 2005, he was elected as the new President of the Bundestag, receiving 564 votes out of 607.
