Born and Early Career

Nurlan Dzhumamanov was born on July 25, 1956 in Berdy, Orenburg, Russia. In 1978, he graduated from the Orenburg Anti-Aircraft Missile Command School and began his military service as a launch crew commander in a missile division of the Central Asian Military District. He subsequently held the positions of deputy battery commander, battery commander, and battalion commander in various air defense units.

Military Academy Graduate

In 1989, Dzhumamanov graduated from the Military Academy of Air Defense. After completing his academy studies, he served as a battalion commander, deputy battalion commander, and brigade commander in various air defense units in Kazakhstan and Germany.

Rise in Kazakh Military

From 1995 to 1998, Dzhumamanov headed the Air Defense Directorate of the Army Forces. He later became the commander of the Air Defense Troops and Chief of Air Defense of the General Command of the Armed Forces (1998-1999). In 1999, he was appointed Commandant of the Higher Border Command School of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.

Senior Military Positions

Dzhumamanov continued his military career in various senior positions. From 1999 to 2000, he served as Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Head of Combat Training. He subsequently held the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff (2000-2001). In 2001, he graduated with distinction from the Russian General Staff Academy, earning a gold medal.

Command and Leadership Roles

From 2002 to 2003, Dzhumamanov commanded the Eastern Military District. He then served as Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces from 2003 to 2004. From 2006 to 2009, he was Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Ministry of Defense.

Deputy Minister of Defense

In 2009, Dzhumamanov was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense. He was relieved of this position in 2010 to assume a different role.

Post-Military Career

After leaving the military, Dzhumamanov was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan in 2013. He held this position until 2014, when he was arrested and detained by the National Security Committee.
