Early Life and Education

Oluwatosin Olugbenga Olateju Olaolorun Fagbenle (O. T. Fagbenle) was born on January 22, 1981, in London, England. His father, Tunde, is a Nigerian of Yoruba descent, and his mother, Ellie, is of English and Irish heritage. O. T. was given the nickname "O. T." as a child, and it has stuck with him throughout his career. He has a younger brother named Luti, who owns a production company that produces music videos, commercials, and films. O. T.'s parents divorced shortly after Luti's birth.

As a child, O. T. traveled extensively, living with his mother in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and often visiting his father in Nigeria. His passion was music, and he played the saxophone from a young age, performing in jazz bands and touring Europe. At 14, he made his acting debut on stage in a Nigerian adaptation of "Macbeth." This experience ignited his desire to pursue a career in acting. He honed his skills at international theater companies and later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Theatre Career

After graduating from drama school, Fagbenle focused on theater with brief appearances in films. His breakthrough role was as Mercutio in a production of "Romeo and Juliet." Critics praised his performance, noting that he outshone the young lovers. He soon landed his first leading role in "Six Degrees of Separation," playing the alleged love child of Sidney Poitier. His performance received critical acclaim, and he won a M.E.N. Theatre Award for Best Actor.

In 2008, Fagbenle worked with theater director Peter Brook in Paris, staging the internationally renowned play "Tierno Bokar." Upon returning to London, he continued to take to the stage. His notable works include the musical "Porgy and Bess," "Polar Bears," "Blackta," and others.

Film and Television Career

Fagbenle's screen debut came in 2002 in the British soap opera "EastEnders." He went on to appear in episodic roles in popular series such as "Agatha Christie's Marple" and "Doctor Who." His first major acting break came in 2006 when he joined the cast of the British sitcom "Teachers." However, the show was met with critical backlash due to its poor acting and writing.

Fagbenle's most significant television role to date is as Luke Bankole in the American dystopian drama series "The Handmaid's Tale." Set in a totalitarian republic where most women are unable to bear children, the series stars Elisabeth Moss as the titular heroine. Fagbenle plays her on-screen husband.

The series premiered in 2017 to critical acclaim and has garnered numerous awards. It has been renewed for multiple seasons, with the fifth season set to premiere in Fall 2022. Fagbenle's performance has been widely recognized, earning him a 2021 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

On the big screen, Fagbenle has appeared in several notable films, including the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film "Black Widow." He played the role of Mason, a contact of Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson). Despite speculation that he was also the mysterious Taskmaster, it was ultimately revealed that this was not the case.

Personal Life

Fagbenle keeps his personal life private and rarely discusses his romantic relationships. He has a large Instagram following, but his posts primarily feature work-related content and photos with colleagues. His father, Tunde, has had several children from different relationships, including Oladap "Daps" Fagbenle, a successful music video director, and British basketball player Temi Fagbenle.

Fagbenle stands at 6 feet (183 cm) tall.
