Early Life and Education
Oldřich Blažíček was born into a humble family. He apprenticed as a painter under his brother before seeking employment in Prague. Displaying artistic talent, he enrolled in the School of Applied Arts under Professors Dítě and Maška. Four years later, he transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, where he completed his studies under Hanuš Schweiger.
Career as a Painter
Blažíček initially focused on interior painting. During his studies, he befriended fellow young artists Otto Gutfreund, Rudolf Kremlička, and Josef Čapek. As a landscape painter, he captured scenes from the Bohemian Highlands. He also gained recognition for his church interior paintings, notably in St. Vitus Cathedral.
Professor and Exhibitor
Blažíček served as a professor at the Czech Technical University from 1927 to 1948. He exhibited his paintings widely, starting with the 1913 exhibitions of the Artists' Union in Poznań and Ljubljana. His works gained significant acclaim at exhibitions in Paris and the United States, organized by the Carnegie Institute.
