Early Life and Education
Born in Kyiv, Oleg Lunev is a Ukrainian artist who excels in painting, theatre, and cinema. He honed his artistic skills at the Taras Shevchenko Republican Art Secondary School, where he encountered the influential scenographer Daniil Lider. This encounter ignited his passion for set design, leading him to participate in republican art exhibitions from 1992 onwards.
In 1997, Lunev graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, studying under the guidance of Lider and A. Burlin. He also received instruction from notable instructors S. Zoruk and V. Budnikov. This academic background laid the foundation for his remarkable artistic journey.
Artistic Career
Since 1997, Lunev has served as the chief artist of the Kyiv Academic Drama and Comedy Theatre on the Left Bank of the Dnieper. His notable works during this period include "The Cuckold" (1998) and "Audiences Are Not Admitted to the Performance" (2001).
Lunev is renowned for his distinct series of paintings, including "Before and After" (triptychs), "Dessert," "Girls of Our Yard" (portraits of familiar women and actresses in Kyiv), and "Overviews." His artistic style blends elements of realism, symbolism, and surrealistic imagery.
Artistic Influences
Lunev's artistic roots run deep, as he hails from a family of renowned creatives. His grandfather was the renowned children's writer Hrytsko Boyko, while his uncle was the celebrated playwright Vadym Boyko. His stepfather, Valentyn Tarnavsky, was also a gifted writer. Moreover, Lunev's family lived in close proximity to the renowned painter-academician Serhiy Hryhoriev.
Lunev attributes his artistic development to the tutelage of Daniil Lider (scenography), Serhiy Molodychkov, and Viktor Zaretsky (painting). His admiration extends to legendary artists such as Diego Velázquez, Gustav Klimt, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, whose styles have influenced his own artistic vision.
