Oliver Blake: Canadian Businessman and Politician
Oliver Blake was a prominent Canadian businessman and political figure from Ontario.
Early Life and Career
Blake was born in New Hampton, New Hampshire, USA, on October 1, 1802. As a young man, he moved to Canada and engaged in various business ventures, including the sale of compact flour mills. Later, he became the president of the Beaver Mutual Fire Insurance Company.
Political Career
Blake's political career began in 1841 when he was appointed Clerk of the Courts. In 1853, he was elected Deputy Lieutenant and Counsel for Townsend Township in Norfolk County. He served as warden in 1852 and again from 1854 to 1857.
Senate of Canada
In 1862, Blake was elected to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada. When the province joined the Canadian Confederation in 1867, he became a member of the Senate of Canada, representing the Liberal Party of Canada.
