Peter Lewis is a well-known American entrepreneur, the owner of a major insurance company and a billionaire. Born in 1933 in the United States, Lewis graduated from Princeton University in 1955 with great success, earning a degree in his chosen field. In 1965, he inherited his father's company and took over as CEO, having previously worked at the company as an intern since 1955.
At the time, Progressive Insurance Companies had only 100 employees and annual revenues of six million dollars. Over time, the company expanded, with the number of employees increasing to fourteen thousand and annual sales reaching approximately five billion dollars. By then, the company had become the fifth-largest auto insurance organization in the United States.
In 2000, Peter Lewis stepped down as the president of Progressive Insurance Companies but remained the chairman of the board. Known for his unorthodox approach to business, Lewis strives to create a highly creative work environment that fosters productivity. He believes that a creative atmosphere is crucial for achieving better results. Additionally, Lewis is actively involved in philanthropy. He frequently donates significant sums of money to various charitable organizations and political parties.
