Early Life and Career
Olokhan Musayev was born in 1979 in the village of Katekh, Azerbaijan. From birth, he has been disabled due to a spinal cord injury. Despite his disability, Musayev showed great athleticism and began competing in shot put at the district level, where he emerged as the champion. His talent caught the attention of Vahid Museddiq, who encouraged him to pursue powerlifting. Musayev agreed and competed in various powerlifting competitions until 2006.
Paralympic Success
In 2007, Musayev decided to return to athletics and competed in the World Championships for Para-athletes in Taipei. He won the gold medal in shot put, securing his qualification for the 2008 Paralympic Games. At the Paralympic Games in Beijing, Musayev broke the world record with a throw of 13.49 meters, becoming the Paralympic and Asian champion.
Continued Success and Honors
Musayev became a world champion for a second time in 2009, winning the gold medal in shot put at the World Championships for Para-athletes in Bangalore. In 2011, he ranked first in the world rankings in his category. Musayev also competed in the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Recognition and Awards
In recognition of his achievements, Musayev received a special Olympic scholarship from the President of Azerbaijan in 2009 and the "Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2016. Moreover, in 2014, he won the gold medal in discus throw at the European Championships in Swansea.
