Early Career
Omri Casspi, an Israeli professional basketball player, began his basketball journey with Hapoel Holon. In 2005, he joined Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth team and won the Israeli youth championship. The following year, he made his debut with Maccabi's senior team, winning the Israeli championship. After a brief stint with Hapoel Galil Elyon, Casspi returned to Maccabi in 2007, becoming a key player. He helped the team reach the 2008 EuroLeague Final and win the Israeli championship in 2009.
NBA Draft and Sacramento Kings
In 2008, Casspi declared for the NBA Draft but withdrew his name due to lack of first-round draft guarantees. He re-entered the draft in 2009 and became the first Israeli player drafted in the first round, picked 23rd overall by the Sacramento Kings. He was also the first Israeli to play in the NBA, following unsuccessful draft selections of Doron Sheffer, Lior Eliyahu, and Yotam Halperin.
Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors
In 2011, Casspi was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a deal that included a first-round draft pick. He subsequently joined the Golden State Warriors in 2014 and won an NBA championship with the team in 2017.
National Team Career
Casspi has represented Israel in international basketball. He has played in numerous EuroBaskets and the 2006 FIBA World Championship, where Israel finished sixth.
