Patrick James Riley was born on March 20, 1945, in a small town in the state of New York. His father was a basketball player who played in the minor basketball league for the Philadelphia Phillies. Growing up in an atmosphere of basketball courts and stadiums, Patrick developed a passion for the sport from a young age.

Rise as a Player

Patrick began playing basketball as a student in the Linton High School team in Schenectady, where his family moved when he was still young. He showed great talent on the court, and his memorable game alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1961, when their team defeated a New York City team, brought him recognition. Patrick not only played, but also led basketball teams, and one particularly dramatic game even became the basis for a movie.
