Orlando Jones: American Comedian and Actor

Orlando Jones, born on April 10, 1968, is an American comedian and actor known for his work in both film and television. He rose to fame as one of the original cast members of the comedy sketch series MADtv and for his role as the face of '7up' from 1999 to 2002.

Early Life and Education

Jones was born in Mobile, Alabama to a Dominican mother and an African-American father, who was a former professional baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies. In his childhood, he moved to Mauldin, South Carolina, where he graduated from high school in 1985.

Early Career

One of Jones' early experiences in acting was playing a werewolf in a haunted house fundraiser for his high school prom. He attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina but left in 1990 without obtaining a degree to pursue his true passion in the entertainment industry. Jones founded his own production company to pursue his interests.

Career in Hollywood

Jones got his first job in Hollywood in 1987 when he wrote a script for the NBC comedy channel's "A Different World." He even had a small role in the show during its fifth season. From 1991 to 1992, Orlando wrote scripts for Fox's series "Roc," and in 1993, he served as one of the producers for "The Sinbad Show." He also had a small role in Fox's comedy series "Herman's Head."

Madtv and Beyond

Jones became one of the nine original cast members of Fox's "MADtv" after his performance as a host on the musical series "Sound FX" in 1994. Unlike many of his colleagues who already had an extensive repertoire, Orlando had limited experience in comedy performances. However, his scripts and skills as a television producer proved to be incredibly valuable for the show, which quickly became successful. After two seasons, Jones left the project to pursue a career in the film industry. However, he returned to "MADtv" in 2004 to celebrate its 200th episode. This made Orlando the third of only five original cast members to return to the show (others included Nicole Sullivan, Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, and Debra Wilson).

Personal Life

During his time on "MADtv," Orlando lived with Artie Lange, who is now a co-host on "The Howard Stern Show." It is known that Jones would not let Lange into their home if he tried to bring cocaine with him.
