His writings covered various aspects of music, including a book on Richard Wagner ("Richard Wagner und Dessen Bühnenfestspiel, Der Ring des Nibelungen") and analyses of Handel's oratorios, the differences between sacred and religious music, and more.
Publications
In 1869, Gumpert published a collection of musical sketches titled "Musikalische Charakterbilder." Three years later, he released its second volume. These publications showcased his insights into the lives and works of renowned musicians.
