Biography of Ovik Abramyan

Ovik Argamovich Abramyan (Armenian: Օվիկ Արգամովիչ Աբրահամյան) was an Armenian statesman. He was born on January 24, 1958, in the village of Mkhchyan, Artashat region.

Early Life and Career

From 1977 to 1979, Abramyan served in the Soviet Army. He then attended the Yerevan Automotive College from 1980 to 1984. Following that, he studied at the Yerevan Institute of National Economy from 1985 to 1990.

After completing his education, Abramyan worked as the head of the department at the Burastan Brandy Factory from 1990 to 1991. He later became the director of the Artashat Wine and Brandy Factory from 1991 to 1995. In 1995, he served as the chairman of the executive committee of the Artashat City Council.

Political Career

Abramyan's political career began in 1996 when he was elected as the mayor of Artashat. He served in this position until 1998 when he was appointed as the governor of Ararat. From 2000 to 2001, Abramyan held the position of Minister for the Coordination of Territorial Administration and Urban Development. He then became the Minister of Territorial Administration of Armenia from 2001 to February 2002.

In February 2002, Abramyan was appointed as the Minister for the Coordination of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Activities. He also became a member of the Security Council of Armenia in April 2005.

On June 8, 2007, Abramyan was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia by the President's decree. He also serves as a member of the councils of the Yerevan State University and the Yerevan Economic Institute.

Later Career and Awards

On November 20, 2007, Abramyan was appointed as the head of the election headquarters of the Prime Minister of Armenia. On April 21, 2008, he was appointed as the head of the President's administration.

Throughout his career, Abramyan has been recognized and awarded for his contributions. He has received medals such as the "For Strengthening Cooperation" (2003), "Ananias Shirakatsi" (2004), Prime Minister's Medal (2006), and the gold commemorative medal of the great humanist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Fridtjof Nansen. He was also honored with the Marshal Baghramyan Medal by the Ministry of Defense in 2007.
