Club Career
Pablo Contreras began his professional career with Chilean club Colo-Colo, where he spent three years. In 1999, he moved to Europe, joining French club Monaco. Contreras initially possessed an Italian passport, which allowed him to play without being considered a foreign player in the European Union. However, it was later discovered that the passport was fake, leading Contreras to be loaned to Argentine club Racing.
In 2001, Contreras returned to Europe, signing for Spanish club Celta Vigo. He spent his first two seasons on loan at Osasuna and Sporting de Gijón before becoming a regular for Celta. During his time with Celta, Contreras obtained a genuine European Union passport by becoming a Spanish citizen.
International Career
Contreras made his debut for the Chilean national team on February 17, 1999, in a match against Guatemala. As of 2010, he had represented his country 51 times and scored one goal. Contreras was named in Chile's squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
