Samuel Dalembert is a Canadian-Haitian professional basketball player who has made his mark in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After a successful college career at Seton Hall University, he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001 and went on to play for several teams throughout his illustrious career.

Early Life and Career

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dalembert spent his early years in his home country before moving to Montreal, Canada, at the age of 14. He developed a passion for basketball and played for Montreal's Lucien-Pagé High School. In 1998, he moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey, to finish high school and further develop his skills.

College Career

Dalembert attended Seton Hall University in 1999, where he played for the Pirates basketball team. He quickly established himself as a formidable force in the paint, averaging 7.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game.

NBA Career

Dalembert entered the 2001 NBA Draft and was selected 26th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. While he struggled initially, he became a key player for the team in his second season, providing strong defense and rebounding. Known for his shot-blocking prowess, Dalembert ranked among the league's top 10 in blocks per game.

He also played for the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Knicks during his NBA career.

International Career

In 2007, Dalembert received Canadian citizenship and played for the Canadian national team at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship. However, he was controversially excluded from the squad during the Olympic qualifying tournament, which Canada ultimately lost to Croatia.

Charity Work

Dalembert is a dedicated philanthropist. He donated $100,000 to aid relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010. His charitable contributions earned him the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2010.
