Paul Bettany is an actor who was born on May 27, 1971, in London, England. He studied acting at the London Drama Centre and began his career in theatre and television. His breakthrough role came in the crime thriller "Gangster No. 1" where he played a young psychopathic criminal. He received critical acclaim for this role, winning an award from the British Independent Film Society and a nomination from the London Film Critics Circle for "Best Newcomer".

After the success of "Gangster No. 1", Bettany caught the attention of Hollywood. In 2001, he portrayed Geoffrey Chaucer in the film "A Knight's Tale". He went on to appear in movies such as "A Beautiful Mind", "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", and "Dogville". One of his notable roles in cinema was as the albino monk Silas in the 2006 film adaptation of Dan Brown's novel "The Da Vinci Code".

In 2008, Bettany appeared in four films, including the fantasy adventure "Inkheart". He married American actress Jennifer Connelly, whom he met on the set of "A Beautiful Mind", and they have two children together. Their son Stellan was born on August 5, 2003, named after actor Stellan Skarsgard, whom Bettany considers his best friend. Their daughter Agnes Lark was born on May 31, 2011.
