Biography of Pavel Taran
Early Life and Career
Pavel Andreevich Taran was born in a peasant family in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1942. After completing school, Taran worked as an electrician at the Nikopol Metallurgical Plant while also studying at an aeroclub. In 1937, he was accepted into the Kachinsk Military Aviation School of Pilots. He participated in the liberation of Western Ukraine.
World War II
When the Great Patriotic War began, Taran commanded a squadron and later a guard bomber aviation regiment. He fought in battles in Ukraine, Crimea, Belarus, and the Baltic States, flying deep into enemy territory all the way to Berlin. Throughout the war, he completed a total of 386 successful combat flights. On June 20, 1942, Taran was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. On March 13, 1944, he was awarded a second "Golden Star" medal. Taran also received numerous other orders and medals.
Later Career
After the war, Taran successfully graduated from the General Staff Academy. He continued to serve in the Soviet Army as a Lieutenant General of Aviation. Taran's dedication to his duty and his exceptional bravery earned him the respect of his comrades and superiors.
Meeting Again
Many years later, Taran and his former comrade, Pavel Andreevich Taran, who is now a Lieutenant General of Aviation, met again. Taran was struck by how little his friend had changed since their last meeting.
