Pedro Benitez
Pedro Benítez: Paraguayan Defender with International Success
Club CareerPedro Benítez, a Paraguayan defender, began his professional career with San Lorenzo de Almagro before playing for Sportivo Luqueño, Olimpia (Asunción), and Cerro Porteño. In late 2004, he signed a five-year contract with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite being linked with AS Roma, who offered €1.1 million, a deal could not be reached.
Failing to establish himself at Shakhtar, Benítez returned to Cerro Porteño. He later had stints with Libertad, UANL Tigres (Mexico), and Atlético Mineiro (Brazil).
International Career
Benítez represented Paraguay at the U-21 level. He was part of the team that won a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, playing 15 minutes in the semi-final against Iraq. A month earlier, he participated in all of Paraguay's matches at the Copa América, including their upset victory over Brazil (2-1).
