Early Life and Education

Peter Caruana was born on October 15, 1956, in Gibraltar. His ancestors were Maltese. He studied both in his hometown and in the United Kingdom, where he pursued political science and obtained a legal education.

Professional Career

Before embarking on a political career, Caruana worked in various companies primarily as a lawyer. However, he soon shifted his focus to politics and became a member of the Gibraltar Social Democrats party (GSD) in 1990, a well-known political organization in Gibraltar. The GSD advocates fiercely for the protection of Gibraltar's sovereignty and engages in peaceful negotiations with all countries. Caruana quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the leader of the GSD within a year.

Premiership and Political Achievements

As the leader of the GSD, Caruana led the party to secure seven seats in the Gibraltar Parliament (House of Assembly), just four years after assuming his leadership position. In 1996, Caruana won the general elections and became the Prime Minister of Gibraltar with a majority of votes. At the time, no one could have predicted that the GSD would remain in power for over a decade. However, under Caruana's leadership, the party not only held onto power but also became the strongest political force in Gibraltar, thanks to his constructive approach and efforts.

Personal Life and Interests

Apart from his political and governmental responsibilities, Caruana has a variety of hobbies that he enjoys in his free time. His main passion is golf. He is married to Christina, who is the daughter of a well-known lawyer in Gibraltar.
