Early BeginningsBorn in New Rochelle, New York, Peter Scolari's acting career began in the 1970s. He performed in various Off-Broadway plays and co-founded the Colonnades Theatre in New York City.
Television Breakthrough
In 1980, Scolari moved to Hollywood and joined the cast of ABC's comedy series "Goodtime Girls." It was there that he caught the attention of casting agents. Later that year, he starred alongside Hank Hanks in "Bosom Buddies," a sitcom about two male advertising executives who disguise themselves as women to live in a women-only hotel.
Standout Role in "Newhart"
After "Bosom Buddies" ended in 1984, Scolari joined the cast of "Newhart." He remained with the show until its finale in 1990, playing one of its most beloved characters.
Post-"Newhart" Career
Following the conclusion of "Newhart," Scolari starred in several short-lived sitcoms, including "Baby Makes Five" and "Family Album." He also appeared in the 1997 television adaptation of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," replacing Rick Moranis in the role of Wayne Szalinski.
Film Appearances
Scolari's big-screen appearances were sporadic. In 1984, he played a resort owner in "Rosebud Beach Hotel." He starred alongside Mary Crosby in the 1990 film "Corporate Affairs."
Collaboration with Tom Hanks
Scolari's friendship with Tom Hanks played a significant role in his career. They reunited in the 2004 animated film "The Polar Express," where Scolari provided the skeletal model for one of the characters.
