Biography of Peter Strauss
American actor and producerPeter Strauss was born on February 20, 1947, in New York City, USA. He grew up in the city of Croton-on-Hudson and developed an interest in acting from a young age. As a teenager, he appeared in productions of "As You Like It" and "Romeo and Juliet" at the Shakespeare Festival in Croton.
Education and Early Career
After graduating from high school, Strauss pursued a degree in acting at Northwestern University. Upon completing his studies, he moved to Los Angeles and began auditioning for film roles. It was during this time that he landed the role of the "black sheep" brother of Michael Douglas' character in the film "Hail, Hero!" (1969).
Rise to Fame
Strauss gained recognition and fame for his portrayal of Rudy Jordache in the miniseries "Rich Man, Poor Man" (1976). The character, the son of an immigrant who embodied the American dream, resonated with audiences and earned Strauss widespread acclaim. The success of the miniseries led to a sequel, "Rich Man, Poor Man--Book II" (1976-77), where Rudy transformed from a regular guy into a senator.
Career as an Actor and Producer
Although Strauss did not frequently appear in feature films, he found success on the small screen. He made his television debut in the film "A Man Without a Country" (1973) and went on to star in "Attack on Terror: The FBI Versus the Ku Klux Klan" (1975). His role in "The Jericho Mile" (1979) earned him an Emmy Award.
In 1981, Strauss expanded his career to include producing. He showcased both his acting and producing skills in the film "A Whale for the Killing." He also starred in the miniseries "Masada" (1981) and produced and acted in "Heart of Steel" (1983). Throughout the 1990s, Strauss became one of the leading actors in television films and series, appearing in projects such as "Fugitive Among Us" (1992) and "Men Don't Tell" (1993).
Later Career
Throughout his career, Strauss has appeared in numerous television films and series. Some notable projects include "Joan of Arc" (1999), "Murder on the Orient Express" (2001), and "Dirty Sexy Money" (2007-09). He has also lent his voice to several Bible story videos, providing the voice of Moses in "Kids' Ten Commandments" (2003). In addition, Strauss has appeared in feature films such as "xXx: State of the Union" (2005) and "License to Wed" (2007).
In 2009, Strauss starred in the film "The Wilderness Family." He continues to work in the entertainment industry, showcasing his talent as both an actor and producer.
