Lieutenant General with Noble Lineage
From an illustrious noble family, Lieutenant General was educated at home and completed his studies in England. From a young age, he was enrolled as a sergeant in the Guards.
Naval Service
On January 1, 1794, he entered active service as a captain in the Black Sea Fleet upon his return from abroad. On June 2, 1795, he was promoted to "fleet lieutenant" and participated in the Black Sea Fleet's expeditions in the Mediterranean from 1794-1800.
Mediterranean Campaigns
From 1797-1798, he served as an aide-de-camp to Admiral F.F. Ushakov. In 1798, he played a significant role in the famous Archipelago expedition aboard the ship "Pavel." The following year, he participated in the landing at Naples and marched with the allied force to Rome, contributing to its capitulation to the British.
Continental Service
In 1801, he transferred to the Baltic Rowing Fleet. In 1802, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Cavalier Guard Regiment and appointed as an aide-de-camp to General F.P. Uvarov. He fought in the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805.
Military Distinction
He distinguished himself in the campaign against the French in 1807 (Heilsberg, Friedland) and in the war with Sweden from 1808-09. On May 20, 1808, he was decorated with the Order of Saint George, 4th Class, for his exceptional bravery in the battles against the French at Wolfsdorf, Heilsberg, and Friedland.
Diplomatic Mission
In 1808, he was sent with dispatches to Paris for Emperor Napoleon I and was granted the rank of aide-de-camp to Emperor Alexander I on October 1, 1808.
Patriotic War of 1812
During the Patriotic War of 1812, he fought in the Baltic region, served under the military governor of Riga, I.N. Essen, and participated in battles at Ekau, Memel, and Mitau.
Foreign Campaigns
In the foreign campaigns that followed, he fought at Bautzen, Dresden, Kulm, and Glogau. On September 15, 1813, he was promoted to major general.
Final Years
He participated in the campaign in France in 1815, returned to Russia in 1817, and retired from service due to illness on January 7, 1818. He returned to duty on November 16, 1826, and served for six years as head of the 1st district of the Separate Corps of Gendarmes. On February 10, 1832, he retired with a full pension and was promoted to lieutenant general. Lieutenant General was buried at the Lazarevsky Cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg.
