Early Life and Education

Valdemaras Rupšys was born on May 2, 1967, in Šiauliai, Lithuania. He embarked on his military journey in 1985, enrolling at the Novocherkassk Higher Military School. In 1987, as a sergeant, he became Deputy Platoon Commander of the 414th Cadet Training Group. However, due to political events in the USSR, he left his studies shortly before graduation in 1989 and returned to Lithuania.

Military Career

Lieutenant General since 2019

Valdemaras Rupšys assumed the role of Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in 2019. He was promoted to Lieutenant General on November 29, 2019, the highest military rank in the country.

Commanding Officer of Land Forces

From 2016, he served as Commander of the Land Forces, receiving the rank of Brigadier General. In November 2018, he was promoted to Major General.

Early Service and Promotions

Beginning in 1992, Rupšys served as Commander of a Motorized Infantry Platoon in the Šiauliai Field Army Brigade, later assuming command of a Company. In 1996, he was appointed Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff of a Motorized Infantry Battalion in Kaunas, subsequently becoming Head of the Operations Department. He held the rank of Major from 2001 to 2005 before ascending to Lieutenant Colonel.

Interests and Personal Life

Outside his military duties, Valdemaras Rupšys enjoys historical documentaries, military history, and cynology.
