Early Life and Education
Petr Ustimovich Brovka was born on June 12 (25), 1905, in the village of Putilkovichi (now in the Ushachi district of the Vitebsk region) into a peasant family. He completed primary education at the local church-parish school in Lepel.
Literary Career
Brovka began writing in 1926. He made his debut in the newspaper "Chyrvonaya Palachchyna" and the literary almanac "Nadzvinne." In 1928, he joined the literary association "Moladnyak" and later the Belarusian Association of Proletarian Writers (BelAPP).
Revolutionary and Literary Activities
During World War II, Brovka served in the Red Army and worked in frontline and partisan publications. In the postwar years, he held various positions in the Union of Writers of the Byelorussian SSR, including as its responsible secretary from 1943 to 1945 and as chairman from 1948 to 1967. He also served as deputy of the USSR Supreme Soviet from 1956 onward.

In 1967, Brovka became the chief editor of the Belarusian Soviet Encyclopedia (now the Belarusian Encyclopedia named after P. Brovka). He held this position until 1980. Brovka passed away on March 24, 1980, in Minsk.
The poet's memory is honored through numerous initiatives, including literary museums in Minsk and Putilkovichi, schools and streets named after him in several Belarusian cities, and the publication of his collected works.
