Biography of Petr Kalinin

Petr Kalinin is a Soviet and Belarusian karateka and karate coach. He is known for his expertise in the Sotokan style of karate and holds the rank of 8th dan. Kalinin is a Sports Master of the Soviet Union and has been a champion of the USSR and Belarus. He has also won numerous international competitions and was awarded the title of Honored Coach of Belarus in 1997.

Kalinin began his karate journey in the late 1970s as part of the first group at the Institute of Physical Education, where he was a student at the time. Over the years, he continued his training under various teachers, with his most recent and influential instructor being Serbian doctor Ilya Yorga, the founder of the Fudokan style. Kalinin has studied a variety of styles, including Sotokan, Shito-ryu, Kyokushin-kai, Sekai-no-kempo, and Fudokan. He also pursued further education at the Academy of Martial Arts of the University of California.

In addition to his personal training, Kalinin has been working as a karate and hand-to-hand combat coach since the late 1970s. He has also served as a Major in the police force and taught at the "Dynamo" Society.

Kalinin represented the "Sekai" team at the Wushu festival in Riga in 1988 and the martial arts competition in Kiev in 1989. As of 2009, he holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Traditional Karate-Do Federation.

Currently, Petr Kalinin resides in Minsk. He is married and has a daughter.
