Blessed Peter Boniface Żukowski
Blessed Peter Boniface Żukowski, a Roman Catholic priest and Franciscan friar, was born on September 9, 1930, in Dziewięć Mórg, Poland.
Religious Vocation
On June 14, 1931, Żukowski entered the Franciscan novitiate in Niepokalanów, Poland. A year later, on July 16, 1932, he took his perpetual vows and was assigned to the Franciscan publishing house in Niepokalanów.
Martyrdom in Auschwitz
On October 14, 1941, Żukowski was arrested by the Nazis and transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Assigned prisoner number 25447, he endured the horrors of the Holocaust until his death on April 10, 1942.
Beatification
On June 13, 1999, Pope John Paul II beatified Żukowski and other Polish martyrs of World War II. His feast day is celebrated on June 12.
