French retiree-hipster, whose photos went viral on the popular American website 'Reddit', has become a model for prestigious advertising campaigns in just six months. Frenchman Philippe Dumas has proven that it is never too late to achieve one's goals. His lifelong dream of becoming a model came true after he dared to post his photos on a social network about seven months ago. Now a 60-year-old retiree, Dumas resides in Paris.
Through a collection of his pictures in various poses and showcasing his stylish hipster beard, Philippe garnered more than 360,000 views on Imgur. Underneath his portraits, Dumas left the following message: "Retired, but not out of the game. Making one last attempt to fulfill my long-time dream of becoming a model. Do you think I have potential?" The elderly Frenchman had no idea of the reaction that would follow.
Rise to Fame
Philippe was invited to participate in several prestigious advertising campaigns, including photo shoots for Getty Images, Inc. and working with the brand Joop! Homme. Prior to landing his dream job, Dumas had spent 20 years as a manager in the film industry and then another 10 years working in advertising. When the advertising company he worked for went bankrupt, the retiree decided to give it one last shot.
Philippe admits that he has always been "stylish by nature" but never ceased to pay attention to his appearance. "I go to the gym five days a week," the Frenchman said. "I do heavy weightlifting for muscle building, cardio for the heart, and incorporate some dance moves to boost my mood and maintain good posture. As for my diet, I love to eat but I am cautious not to gain too much weight. I try to eat healthy, but occasionally indulge in a tasty and juicy carbohydrate-filled hamburger."
Embracing the Fashion World
At 60 years old, Philippe faces a considerable number of young competitors in the fashion industry, but the retiree-hipster claims not to feel any pressure from the younger generation. He states, "No tension. I enjoy fashion and its fast-paced nature. However, it's important to remember that fashion is cyclical. Ideas are often recycled from the past. So, never get rid of your clothes, as they may come back into trend again."
