Early Life and Activism
Pierre Goldman, a prominent French revolutionary and intellectual of Jewish descent, was born in 1944. He actively participated in the Young Communist Movement and the Union of Communist Students.
Guerrilla Warfare and Bank Robbery
In 1968, Goldman traveled to Venezuela and joined the guerrilla movement there. Upon his return to France in 1969, he faced accusations of robbing a pharmacy, a clothing workshop, and a social worker.
Pharmacy Heist and Imprisonment
In December 1974, Goldman was sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly killing two pharmacists during a pharmacy robbery in 1969. However, he denied any involvement in the incident.
Retrial and Redemption
Public outcry over alleged procedural irregularities led to a retrial, and Goldman's sentence was reduced to 12 years. In 1976, a second trial exonerated him, overturning his previous conviction.
Journalism and Writing
After his release, Goldman pursued a career in journalism, writing for left-wing publications such as "Les Temps modernes" and "Libération."
Assassination and Legacy
On September 20, 1979, Goldman was tragically murdered in Paris by members of an ultra-right death squad. His son, Manuel, was born on the same day. Thousands of mourners attended Goldman's funeral, honoring his memory as a champion of social justice.
