He played for local amateur team SC Welberg and also excelled in high jump. A loyal supporter of NAC Breda, he was rejected by the club's youth team due to a lack of technical ability.
Professional Breakthrough
In 1989, van Hooijdonk joined RKC Roosendaal and quickly established himself as a prolific goal-scorer, earning a move back to NAC Breda in 1991. Over three and a half seasons, he scored 81 goals for "The Yellow Jackets."
Celtic
In 1994, van Hooijdonk crossed the channel to join Scottish giants Celtic. He became an instant fan favorite, helping the club win the Scottish Cup in his first season. His impressive physicality and aerial prowess were well-suited to the Scottish Premier League.
Nottingham Forest
