In the Napoleonic era, Bodio served as a state councilor in Milan. He was best known for editing the voluminous collection, "Scrittori classici italiani di economica politica" (1803-1816), which included the works of prominent Italian economists from 1582 to 1804.

In recognition of his contributions, a street and an economic technical school in Milan were named after Bodio. He remains an influential figure in the history of Italian economic thought.
