Oluwafemi Ajilore: Journey of a Nigerian Footballer
Early CareerOluwafemi Ajilore's footballing journey began in 1996 with the modest club Okim Oloja Ventures. His impressive performance there caught the attention of Bendel Espérance, where he played alongside Julius Aghahowa. His exceptional skills in the Nigerian league led to a move to ASEC Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire.
European Adventure
In the summer of 1999, Ajilore crossed the Atlantic to join Ajax Amsterdam. He made his Eredivisie debut in November against AZ Alkmaar. In search of more playing time, he spent seasons on loan at Groningen and Rosendaal. After his contract with Ajax expired, he joined AZ. He was then loaned out to VVV-Venlo.
Eastern European Stint
In 2007, Ajilore signed a three-year contract with FC Metalurh Donetsk in Ukraine. However, after only three appearances, he returned to Rosendaal.
International Career
Ajilore debuted for the Nigerian national team at the age of 17 in 1997. He represented the under-20 squad at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship. He missed the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury but played in all three matches at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. In 2004, he participated in all the matches at the Africa Cup of Nations.
