Early Life and Family
Rachel Buehler was born on August 26, 1985, in La Jolla, California. She grew up in an athletic family. Her father was a Stanford University water polo standout and became a surgeon, while her mother was an accomplished soccer player who competed in national tournaments.
Collegiate Career
Buehler attended Stanford University, where she graduated in 2007 with a degree in Biology. She was a star player on the Stanford Cardinals women's soccer team, leading them to the NCAA Championship and improving their national ranking.
International Career
In 2004, Buehler helped the United States U-19 team finish third at the FIFA U-19 Women's World Cup in Thailand. She also scored a critical goal against Canada in a 2004 exhibition match. In 2005, she played for the U-21 national team at the Nordic Cup in Sweden.
Joining the National Team
In July 2006, Buehler joined the United States women's national soccer team. She spent the season training at the Olympic Training Center and initially served as a reserve player. Buehler made her international debut in March 2008 at the Algarve Cup in Portugal against China, showcasing her skills and determination.
2008 Beijing Olympics
