Biography of Radiy Yurkin

Radiy Yurkin was born on January 8, 1928, in the city of Krasnodon, in a family of civil servants. In 1942, he completed seven classes at School No. 1 named after Gorky. During the occupation of the city, Radiy became a member of the "Young Guard", a clandestine organization. He carried out many responsible assignments as instructed by the headquarters.

In October 1942, based on the recommendation of the commander of the "Young Guard", I. Turkienich, and the members of the headquarters I. Zemnukhov and V. Levashov, Radiy joined the ranks of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth League (Komsomol).

Before the 25th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, Radiy Yurkin, together with a group led by S. Tyulenyin, raised the red flag on the building of School No. 4.

When the arrests of underground activists began, Radiy Yurkin left for Krasny Luch, and later to Voroshilovsk, where he went into hiding until the arrival of the Red Army.

In October 1943, the Central Committee of the Komsomol sent Radiy to a school for initial flight training, and in January 1945, after completing his training, he was assigned to the Pacific Fleet. He took part in battles against Japanese militarists and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Medal "For Victory over Japan".

Afterwards, Radiy Yurkin served in the Red Banner Baltic and Black Sea Fleets. For his impeccable long-term service, he was awarded the Medal "For Combat Merit". In 1950, Radiy Yurkin graduated from the Eisk Military Aviation School, and for his successful mastery of new equipment, he was awarded a second Order of the Red Banner.

In 1957, due to health reasons, Radiy Yurkin was discharged from service and lived in the city of Krasnodon. He devoted a lot of his time and energy to the military-patriotic education of youth and was a passionate propagandist of the extraordinary feat of his Young Guard friends.

Radiy Petrovich Yurkin passed away on July 16, 1975. He was buried in the city of Krasnodon.
