Early Life and Education

Born in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia (now North Macedonia), Radmila Šekerinska pursued a career in engineering. She graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje in 1995. In 1996, she began working as a public relations assistant at the Open Society Institute. From 1997 to 2002, Šekerinska served as an assistant at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, where she earned her Ph.D. in 2007. She later completed a Master's degree from the prestigious Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the United States in 2007.

Political Career

Šekerinska's political journey began in 1993 when she was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM). From 1995 onwards, she held various positions within the party, including member of the SDSM Presidency and deputy secretary for foreign affairs. In 1999, she became the chairperson of the Youth SDSM. She served as the party's chairman from 2006 until her resignation in 2008 following the SDSM's electoral defeat.

Governmental Roles

From 1996 to 1998, Šekerinska was a member of the Skopje City Council. In 1998, she was elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. She was re-elected in 2002 and immediately appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Coordination of Foreign Aid in the government of Branko Crvenkovski. Upon Crvenkovski's election as president, Šekerinska served as interim Prime Minister from May to June 2004, until Hari Kostov was appointed. She briefly held the position of Prime Minister again during Kostov's absence. In the subsequent governments of Kostov and Bučkovski, Šekerinska continued to serve as Deputy Prime Minister.

Minister of Defense

In June-July 2009, Šekerinska led the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission for the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan. Since June 1, 2017, she has served as the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Macedonia/North Macedonia.

Personal Life

Radmila Šekerinska is married to businessman Božidar Jankovski since 2006. They do not have any children.
