Andreas Busko: A German-Polish Politician
Early Life and EducationAndreas Busko was born on October 13, 1977, in Opole, Poland. After graduating from the Pedagogical University of Opole, he pursued a postgraduate degree in EU Fund Management at the Wrocław University of Technology.
Teaching and Community Work
Busko's early career revolved around education and community involvement. From 1998 to 2001, he taught German in Dębska Kuźnia, a primary school in Opole Voivodeship. In 2008, he became the Director of the House of Polish-German Cooperation, a position he held until 2015.
Political Career
Busko's political journey began in 2002 when he was elected to the Municipal Council of Chrząstowice. Between 2006 and 2010, he served as Chairman of the council. He also represented the German minority in various capacities, including as co-chairman of the Joint Commission for the Government and National Minorities (2012-2018) and chairman of the Socio-Cultural Society of Germans in Opole Silesia (2015-present).
Regional Leadership
In the 2018 Local Elections, Busko was elected to the Opole Voivodeship Assembly. On October 21, 2018, he was appointed Chairman of the Assembly, becoming the first ethnic German to hold this position in Poland.
National Ambitions
In 2019, Busko unsuccessfully ran for the Polish Senate. However, in May 2022, he was elected Chairman of the Union of German Social and Cultural Associations in Poland, bolstering his role as a representative of the German minority at the national level.
