Biography of Rafik Petroysan

Rafik Gareginovich Petroysan (Armenian: Ռաֆիկ Գարեգինի Պետրոսյան) was born on May 1, 1940, in the village of Debed, Kirovakan. He is a member of the Armenian parliament and has made significant contributions to the field of law.

Education and Early Career

Petroysan attended Yerevan State University from 1960 to 1965, where he studied law. He was awarded a medal by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for his exemplary work in 1970. Following his graduation, Petroysan pursued further studies in the field of law, completing his postgraduate studies at the same university in 1966-1967. He eventually earned a Doctor of Law degree and became a professor.

Professional and Political Career

Petroysan's career began with humble beginnings, working as a carpenter at the Apanovka Station in the Kazakh SSR from 1957 to 1958. He later worked as a lathe operator at the Kirovakan Precision Machine Tool Plant from 1958 to 1962. In 1966, he became a judge at the Spitak District People's Court and served in this role until 1970. From 1971 to 1983, Petroysan worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University.

In 1984, Petroysan took on administrative roles within the university, serving as the deputy dean until 1987. From 1988 to 1996, he held the position of dean, and from 1991 to 2003, he became the head of the Civil Law Department at the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University. Throughout his academic career, Petroysan also actively participated in the political sphere. He was a member of the Armenian parliament from 1990 to 1995 and served as a member of the Constitutional Commission and working group from 1992 to 1995.

From 2003 to 2007, Petroysan returned to the parliament as a member and held the position of Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He was re-elected to the parliament on May 12, 2007, and remained an active member of the political party "RPA" throughout his career.
