A Disciple of Nisargadatta Maharaj
Born in 1917, Ramesh Balsekar is the spiritual heir to Nisargadatta Maharaj, having received direct transmission from the renowned Advaita master. In his teachings, Balsekar offers no miracles, healings, or special powers; instead, he guides seekers towards the realization of their true nature as Nothingness.
A Life of Corporate Success
Despite his lack of ambition, Balsekar rose through the ranks of the Indian banking industry, retiring in 1977 as its General Manager. Throughout his career, Balsekar exhibited exceptional abilities, earning him promotions without seeking them.
The Call of Advaita
After retirement, Balsekar stumbled upon an article about Nisargadatta Maharaj, an Advaita guru living in a poor neighborhood in Bombay. Captivated by Maharaj's teachings, Balsekar began attending his daily discourses and within months commenced translating them. Soon after, Balsekar himself attained the ultimate intuitive understanding.
A Modern-Day Guru
As a retired bank president, golfer, husband, and father, Balsekar defies the traditional image of an Indian guru. This unique perspective, combined with his education and understanding, makes him an ideal bridge between East and West, and between the material and spiritual realms.
A Legacy of Non-Teaching
Balsekar's message is simple: there is nothing to do or achieve in the spiritual quest. By understanding their true nature as pure consciousness, seekers can transcend the limitations of the ego and experience the boundless freedom of their being.
International Influence
Balsekar's teachings have resonated with seekers from around the world, particularly in the West. Ninety percent of his attendees are non-Indians, drawn to his grounded and practical approach to spirituality. Through books, videos, and satsangs, Balsekar continues to inspire countless seekers on their journey towards self-realization.
