Biography of Raul Khajimba
Raul Khajimba is an Abkhazian politician and political figure who has served as Vice President of Abkhazia since 2005. He was born in Tkvarcheli in 1958. After completing high school, he worked as a locksmith at the Tkvarcheli Thermal Power Plant. From 1976 to 1978, he served in the Soviet Army in the Air Defense Forces. After demobilization, he worked in the Tkvarcheli city committee of the Komsomol. From 1978 to 1979, he worked as a locksmith at the "Gumista" resort in the Sukhumi district.
After graduating from the Law Faculty of the Abkhazian State University in 1984, Khajimba began working as a legal consultant at the Sukhumi Chemical Plant. From 1985 to 1986, he studied at the Minsk School of the KGB for individuals with higher education. From 1986 to 1992, he was an employee of the Tkurchal department of the Abkhazian KGB.
During the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict in 1992-1993, Khajimba served as the head of the military intelligence and counterintelligence service of the Eastern Front. For his military merits, he was awarded the Order of Leon. After the end of the war from 1993 to 1995, he worked as the head of the Department of the State Security Service of the Republic of Abkhazia. From 1996 to 1998, he was the head of the Department for Combating Smuggling of the State Customs Committee of Abkhazia.
From 1998 to 1999, he was the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee. From 1999 to 2001, he served as the Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic of Abkhazia and simultaneously as the First Deputy Prime Minister of Abkhazia.
From 2001 to 2002, he was the First Deputy Prime Minister of Abkhazia. From 2002 to 2003, he served as the Minister of Defense and Vice Prime Minister of Abkhazia.
Since 2003, he has been the Prime Minister of Abkhazia. In 2005, Khajimba was elected Vice President of the Republic of Abkhazia.
